What's On in the Hawkesbury

This weekend is the perfect time to be out and about in the Hawkesbury.

Take the opportunity to wander through one of our Hawkesbury markets. On Saturday there’s the Richmond Good Food Markets in Richmond Park 8-1pm, Windsor Riverside Markets in Governor Phillip Park 9 – 1pm, Bilpin Markets 10 -12pm and East Kurrajong Hall Twilight Markets 3-7pm. On Sunday there’s the Windsor Mall Markets 9am – 3pm.

It’s chestnut season so head to stunning Mount Irvine to Nutwood Farm and Kookootonga Nut Farm for some family fun picking your own chestnuts and walnuts. Both are open Saturday and Sunday 9-4. While you’re in the area why not visit an orchard or two for some apple picking to fill the baskets. See below for opening times.

For art enthusiasts, this is your last chance to see the Barely Wearable and Re/Purpose exhibitions at the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery. The Gallery is open 10-3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Free entry.

On Sunday head to Australiana Pioneer Village to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Wear green and enjoy the celebrations with Irish themed crafts, games and activities. Plenty of fun for the whole family. Open 10am – 4pm. Adults $10, Children/pensioners/carers $5, Family of 4 $25. Free parking inside the village.

Frank Sultana gets 'Down Home'

After his historic January 2023 Memphis International Blues Challenge win and with his star continuing to rise, Frank Sultana, the globe-trotting Australian bluesman, returns home from the USA for the fourth time in two years, as he embarks on his most ambitious run of local gigs to date.

The 'Down Home' Tour will take in over 30 shows from March to July 2025 as Frank performs solo in intimate, hand-picked venues across his home state of NSW. On display will be the visceral soul singing and raw authenticity that won him first place in the most prestigious blues competition in the world.

Joining Frank will be folk/blues storyteller Morton Choppers with his first string of live appearances in over a year.

About Barely Wearable:
Barely Wearable continues Ruth Downes’ passion for reappropriating everyday materials and objects to celebrate their intrinsic beauty. Materials for these ‘wearable’ artworks have been gleaned from a diverse range of sources – from aircraft headsets to coffee capsules. Detritus from nature has also been salvaged to be re-born as a fashion statement.
By reimagining these materials, Downes’ has created works that transcend their utilitarian function, casting them in a fresh light. The works question our accepted values and how we award status by projecting these everyday materials into the realm of art.

About Re|Purpose:
Some of the most fascinating objects in our Museum have stories that are a little unexpected. These objects don’t tell us stories about important historical events, they tell us about the everyday lives of people and the clever and sometimes humorous way they ‘made do’ – recycling, upcycling and repurposing old materials and objects into something new and useful once more.
RE|PURPOSE is an exhibition of objects sourced from the collection of Hawkesbury Regional Museum installed alongside wall drawings by Dan Kyle and Jennifer Brady.
